The kids are home from school for a while for Christmas break and they have more than the normal amount of free time on their hands. Does that equal chaos in your house? It certainly could if the time is not structured to some point. You might do some reorganizing to help daily life go smoother when things get back to normal. You could challenge them to do some special production like working up a song, or writing and performing a play. Perhaps assigning a certain amount of reading to be done, like a book per week or something like that. Books don’t have to be expensive. You can get online and find a lot of cheap children’s books to be enjoyed. Another idea is to rearrange the bedrooms and do some deep cleaning of closets and dresser drawers. Or repaint the bedroom walls and do a little redecorating.

Whatever you choose to do, it’s good to get the whole family involved and make it fun. Then to look at the end results with pride gives the kids a sense of accomplishment that helps them learn a good work ethic. So make good use of the school break instead of just passing the time in chaos.
