A Tokina 11-16mm review pointed out that you should avoid using an on-camera flash with this lens. The reviewer noted is that you should expect to see shadows around the bottom of each image if you use the on-camera flash. This is actually not a problem with the lens, but happens because the lens is so effective. When using your on-camera flash, the bright light will cast a shadow under the camera. The reason why the shadows display on the images is that the Tokina is actually so ultra-wide, that it can capture far enough downward to actually display the shadow caused by the camera. Using an external flash will prevent this from happening. As the external flash is already lifted from the camera its beam will extend more forward than downward. Since reading this review, I never use the on-camera flash anymore, but always carry my external flash with me.
